Setting up your Gemini API Key

Lytnt runs local jobs using Google Gemini. To activate image generation and analysis, you need to add your personal Gemini API key.

  1. Go to the Google AI Studio API Key Manager.
  2. Sign in with your Google account and click Create API Key.
  3. Copy the generated API Key.
  4. Open Lytnt on your Mac, navigate to App Settings (gear icon in the bottom-left sidebar), and paste your key into the Gemini API Key input field.
  5. Click Save. You are now ready to start creating projects and generating images!

Tip: The Gemini API offers a free tier with rate limits, which is usually sufficient for individual use. You only pay for what you use if you enable billing for higher limits.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where does Lytnt store my files?

All your data, projects, tags, metadata, and uploaded images are stored locally under your macOS user directory:~/Library/Application Support/lytnt/lytnt/

Do you upload my assets to a cloud database?

No. Lytnt is a local-first application. We do not run any cloud database, and your files never leave your computer, except when they are sent directly from your device to the Google Gemini API for processing and generation.

What image formats are supported?

Lytnt supports major image formats including PNG, JPEG, JPG, WebP, and TIFF. All image processing (resizing, collage building) is performed locally using the high-performance Sharp library.

How do I update the application?

Updates are managed directly through the Mac App Store. When a new version is released, macOS will automatically update Lytnt or prompt you to do so.
